Visit by Emeritus Professor Philippe de Woot
Deployments Factory had the honour of welcoming Monsieur Philippe de Woot, Emeritus Professor at UCL and member of the Belgian Royal Academy. The purpose of his visit was to present his book "Corporate Social Responsibility: should Prometheus be bound?" to the company’s personnel.

This essay offers a critical analysis of the current movement for Corporate Social Responsibility. It attempts to show, at the same time, the necessity, the limits and the conditions to be fulfilled so that this movement may influence our economic model and make it move towards sustainable development. The creativity of business has new weapons: techno-sciences, new spaces: globalisation and new freedoms: an ethical void and politics on a worldwide scale.

By becoming more responsible, business may contribute to the development of the model to which it gives life. In order to do this, it must transform its culture on an in-depth basis: broaden its aims, adopt a set of future-based ethics, and accept more open debate with new players in the worldwide society, such as NGO and international organisations. The legitimacy of business will increasingly depend on the values that will guide its strategic choices and behaviour. This transformation is necessary for the growth of our economic model, but it is not sufficient. The putting in place of the key elements of a world government is also indispensable if we wish to promote real sustainable development.

hilippe de WOOT is Emeritus Professor at the Université Catholique de Louvain. He is a member of the Belgian Royal Academy and the International Academy of Management. He has published a number of books, with various publishers, on the strategies of European business and its aims and responsibilities in the face of globalisation. He has also acted as advisor to a number of international companies. In 2002 he received the Zerelli Marimo Prize from the Academy of Moral and Political Science of the Institut de France for his collected works.

His book was read by the Deployments Factory personnel, who subsequently had the opportunity to listen to the Professor and open a debate.

The Deployments Factory Back Office, production unit for projects and processes

Deployments Factory is the first provider of services in the management of projects and processes to receive certification for all the operational processes of its Back Office. This Back Office unit is implemented in two different ways:

  • Within Deployments Factory, it offers services to clients who do not want to invest in infrastructure, processes, tools and human resources while still having a guaranteed quality service.
  • Within clients’ organisations, it organises a great number of administrative support tasks (receiving data, checks, updating frames of reference and databases, production reports, despatch, etc...) in industrial mode.

It is currently being used to the great satisfaction of its clients as a support for activities linked to the rollout of IT developments, banking mergers, relocation, production and checking of corporate reports (Basel II, etc...) An report describes the operational processes and internal controls at a given moment. An external auditor verifies if existing controls are sufficient for the achievement of management objectives in terms of control. In the case of an ISO 9001 examination, the external auditor verifies the effectiveness of operational processes by means of various audits over a period of 6 months, in order to ensure that they are functioning correctly.
